News!

Rumors are going around our apartments that we will be hooked up to a generator soon. Maybe only a couple more weeks of Monday and Thursday night sandwiches and candles.

Our UN internship is now extended until December. This means we still have full access to the library, gym, duty free store and language classes. Not to mention an extension on our strapped deadlines. I’m really happy about this.

We cooked dinner for 5 people Friday night- 9 including us. Alfred, who we have cooked (VERY POORLY) for in the past was gracious enough to give us a chance to redeem ourselves. And I think we did!

Also, has anyone been watching the news about Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq?? We have been talking about it a lot over here. What are your thoughts?

For all of my family reading this.. would LOVE to read comments from you! Just click where it says comments below a post, and it will walk you through step by step.

Hey Michelle, Thanks for the comment! I'm enjoying reading about your time in Africa. Good luck with your cooking, sounds like that has been quite the adventure!

Guess that means we will have to wait a while to get to see you. We will be in Salem 9/19 on our way to see the fall colors in the NE part of the country.

Did I somehow miss your point re:requesting coomments? It seems to me that no one comments on anything that could be controversial or that would lead to a discussion. Sunni and Shia? i worry about the US as we become more polarized like the Sunni and Shia. Neither persons nor country's voluntarily give up power. BTW: Is starting a thread of real conversation verboten? OR are you really, as I suspect, looking for comments that are less saccharin? Love, Gram

I agree with Gram; the "discussion" about health care options in this country has taken on a really and generally non-civil tone when people resort to character assassination - posters of the Pres. with a Hitler mustache, posters with him and swastikas, all the so-called "birthers" who keep insisting he wasn't born here....none of which contributes to the health care debate. The Mallard cartoon today portrayed the Pres. saying "I want to help you get rid of your old clunkers," with the next panel showing an old lady. In case you haven't heard, the opposition has twisted a provision allowing payment for end-of-life counseling to portend euthanasia as a "logical" cosequence. The frightening thing is that people are willing to believe all that rather than to admit that they are just plain racist. Gramps
